Where Milos Boat Trips Leave From
Nearly every boat trip in Milos boards at Adamantas — Adamas, the island’s main port, set deep inside one of the largest natural harbours in the Mediterranean, a drowned volcanic caldera. The name means “place of thieves” — this was a genuine pirate hideout, the rock stacks screening ships from view. There is no road to Kleftiko, and no path down the cliffs: the only way in is by sea, which is why every cruise on the island points at it.
Boats anchor in the bay and you swim in among the rocks, through the arches and into the caves themselves, with a mask if you have any sense — the water is 15 to 20 metres of glass and the light coming through the tunnels is the photograph everyone comes home with. Polyaigos, Sykia and the Rest of the Route
The longer cruises pair Kleftiko with the other places the road cannot reach. Полиегос, across a narrow strait, is the largest uninhabited island in the Aegean — no houses, no tavernas, nothing but goats and a bay called Galazia Nera, the “blue waters”, where the shallows over pale rock turn a turquoise that looks colour-corrected until you are standing in it. Sykia is a sea cave whose roof collapsed centuries ago, so you swim into a chamber open to the sky with a beach of sand at the back.
