Milos is a volcanic island με a coastline that looks like nowhere else in Greece — white rock folded into arches, sulphur-yellow cliffs, sea caves that pirates genuinely used — και almost none of the best of it can be reached by car. Κλέφτικο, the island’s signature landscape, has no road at all. Neither does Sykia, the roofless cave, nor the uninhabited island of Πολύαιγος across the strait. A boat trip is not an optional extra in Milos: it is the only way to see the island properly. This οδηγός lays out the real options — where each one leaves από, how long it takes, roughly what it costs, what is included και when to go. To plan a catamaran ημέρας με DanEri, see the Milos cruises page.
Where Milos Boat Trips Leave από
Nearly every boat trip in Milos boards at Adamantas — Adamas, the island’s main port, set deep inside one of the largest natural harbours in the Mediterranean, a drowned volcanic caldera. It is where the ferries arrive και where the whole excursion fleet ties up, so it is a short walk or a cheap taxi από Plaka, Trypiti or Pollonia. A handful of smaller trips also leave από Pollonia in the north-east, mostly the ones heading for Polyaigos και Kimolos. Because the boats sail out of a sheltered caldera, mornings here are usually glassy, και the sail west along the coast towards Kleftiko is part of the ημέρας rather than a transfer.
Boats leave Adamantas, the port inside a drowned volcanic caldera — the calmest harbour in the Cyclades.
Kleftiko: The Reason You Take the Boat
Kleftiko is the whole point. On the wild south-west corner of the island, a cluster of brilliant white volcanic rocks rises straight out of impossibly clear water, hollowed into arches, tunnels και sea caves. The name means “place of thieves” — this was a genuine pirate hideout, the rock stacks screening ships από view. There is no road to Kleftiko, και no path down the cliffs: the only way in is by sea, which is why every cruise on the island points at it.
Boats anchor in the bay και you swim in among the rocks, through the arches και into the caves themselves, με a mask if you have any sense — the water is 15 to 20 metres of glass και the light coming through the tunnels is the photograph everyone comes home με. από Adamantas the sail out takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours along the south coast, passing the sulphur cliffs και the old mining loaders on the way. Most cruises give you an hour or more anchored there.
Kleftiko has no road και no path — the white rocks και pirate caves are reachable only από the water.
No. There is no road και no safe descent από the cliffs above. Every visitor who has swum in Kleftiko arrived by sea. If a Milos itinerary has room for exactly one thing, this is it.
Polyaigos, Sykia και the Rest of the Route
The longer cruises pair Kleftiko με the other places the road cannot reach. Πολύαιγος, across a narrow strait, is the largest uninhabited island in the Aegean — no houses, no tavernas, nothing but goats και a bay called Galazia Nera, the “blue waters”, where the shallows over pale rock turn a turquoise that looks colour-corrected until you are standing in it. Sykia is a sea cave whose roof collapsed centuries ago, so you swim into a chamber open to the sky με a beach of sand at the back. Klima, the fishing village of painted boathouses stacked at the waterline, is the classic photo stop, και DanEri’s cruises take it in alongside Kleftiko.
Sykia is advertised on a lot of itineraries, but getting inside depends on wind, swell και the captain’s judgement on the ημέρας. Treat it as a bonus rather than a promise — και be sceptical of any operator who guarantees it.
Polyaigos is the largest uninhabited island in the Aegean — και Galazia Nera is why the boats go there.
Types of Milos Boat Trip & What They Cost
Every Milos boat trip falls into one of a handful of types. The prices below are typical 2026 market ranges per adult και vary by operator, boat και season — use them as a rough οδηγός, not a quote.
Luxury catamaran cruise to Kleftiko
The comfortable pick: a wide, stable deck, a cooked meal και unlimited drinks, snorkelling gear και a long anchored stop at Kleftiko, usually με Klima village on the way. πρωινή or απογευματινή departures, small guest numbers.
Full-ημέρας sailboat or catamaran to Kleftiko & Polyaigos
The long, unhurried ημέρας: Kleftiko plus the crossing to Polyaigos και Galazia Nera, με several swim stops και lunch on board. The most water time you can buy in Milos, και the only format that reliably includes the uninhabited island.
Speedboat or RIB tour
Smaller, quicker και able to nose right inside the caves και arches a big boat cannot enter. Less shade, less space και a bumpier ride, but the most intimate look at the rock. Good for confident swimmers in a hurry.
Ιδιωτική ναύλωση
The whole catamaran for your group, on your own schedule — the way to reach Kleftiko early, before the ημέρας fleet arrives και the bay fills. Best value από about fourteen επισκέπτες, και the pick for celebrations.
DanEri’s all-inclusive luxury catamaran sails από Adamantas port to Kleftiko Bay και Klima village, πρωινή or απογευματινή, 5.5 hours, a maximum of 20 επισκέπτες, at 155 euro per person. That includes a freshly prepared ελληνικό feast, unlimited drinks, snorkelling gear, σανίδες SUP, the water slide και the crew. Full details on the Milos cruises page.
Milos Boat Trips, as Guests Tell It
Prices και sailing times only get you so far — here is what a ημέρας actually feels like, in the words of επισκέπτες who sailed the DanEri catamaran in Milos. Every quote below is από a verified Tripadvisor review.
What people describe is less an excursion than a slow, well-fed ημέρας, και it starts before you are even on the boat:
“Had a great time on this excursion! We met at the cafe και got checked in then headed to the catamaran και had coffee και pastries. Once we arrived to the spot to snorkel, the water was so clear και beautiful. After swimming, we ate an amazing lunch prepared on the catamaran.”
The lunch comes up again και again, και it surprises people — because it is cooked on board rather than reheated out of a box. Anna booked the ημέρας as a birthday present:
“I booked DanEri Yachts for my husband’s birthday. The crew was great, welcoming, funny, και laid back. I was shocked when I saw them taking out fresh fish από the oven. They had salads και sides. It was overall a pleasant experience. I highly recommend booking this.”
και as in Cyprus, επισκέπτες leave naming the crew rather than the landmarks:
“What a brilliant ημέρας!! George the Skipper και Joanna made our ημέρας really special. We traveled on this lovely γιοτ to a tranquil bay where we had loads of time to swim και paddle board. Then treated to a fantastic lunch με fresh fish και delicious salads!”
Fish out of the oven, not out of a box — the lunch επισκέπτες keep writing about.
Τι περιλαμβάνεται και τι να πάρετε μαζί
On an all-inclusive catamaran the ημέρας is handled: a ελληνικό meal cooked on board, unlimited local wine, beer, soft drinks και water, snorkelling και swimming equipment, σανίδες SUP, floats, a water slide, fishing gear και a professional crew. Cheaper boats και RIB tours typically include far less — often just water και a snack — so it is worth asking what the price actually covers before comparing two numbers.
There are no facilities at Kleftiko or Polyaigos: no shop, no tavernas, no shade ashore. Bring swimwear, a towel, a hat και high-factor sun cream, swim shoes for the rocks, a mask if you have one, και a waterproof pouch for your phone. The Milos sun bounces hard off white volcanic rock, so the burn is quicker than you expect. A little cash covers extras και a tip for the crew.
Snorkel gear, σανίδες SUP και the water slide come με the ημέρας on an all-inclusive catamaran.
Best Time for a Milos Boat Trip
Τα σκάφη κυκλοφορούν περίπου από Μάιο έως Οκτώβριο. Οι καλύτερες στιγμές είναι ο Ιούνιος, ο Σεπτέμβριος και οι αρχές Οκτωβρίου — warm water, long days και thinner crowds than the July–August peak, when Kleftiko can hold a surprising number of boats between about 11am και 3pm. The variable that really matters in the Cyclades is not temperature but wind: the μελτέμι, the north wind that blows hardest in July και August, can build enough swell on the exposed south-west coast that a captain will shorten the route or skip Sykia. Mornings are almost always calmer than afternoons, which is the real argument for the early departure. Check the month-by-month Milos sea temperature οδηγός πριν διαλέξετε ημερομηνία.
Mornings are glassy, afternoons carry the wind — και the light on the way home is the trade.
Why a καταμαράν in Milos
Milos rewards a stable boat more than most islands. The run to Kleftiko is along an exposed coast, και a catamaran’s two hulls give a wide deck that barely rolls, a shallow draft that noses in close to the white rock, και real space — shaded και open — to spread out between swims instead of perching on a rail. It is also the format that turns the sailing time into part of the ημέρας rather than a transfer to be endured. DanEri’s catamaran sails από Adamantas to Kleftiko και Klima με a ελληνικό feast cooked on board, snorkelling gear, σανίδες SUP και a crew that handles everything. πρωινή, απογευματινή, full-ημέρας και ιδιωτικό charters are on the Milos cruises page, και if you are island-hopping, the two-ημέρας Milos cruise από Κρήτη reaches it by sea.
At anchor off the white rock, a catamaran’s deck becomes the best seat in the Cyclades.
